How to calculate age from your date of birth
- Enter your date of birth, with the day first, then the month and four-digit year.
- Keep today’s date to find your current age, or change Age as on to another date.
- Select Calculate age. Read the years, months and days, or copy the result with both dates included.
This DOB-to-age calculator also shows elapsed days, weeks with remaining days, and the next birthday on or after your selected date. Changing either date clears the previous result so you can calculate again.
How the calculation works
Your completed age counts the calendar time since birth. For someone born on 15 August 2000, the completed age on 14 August 2026 is 25 years; on 15 August it becomes 26 years. Subtracting birth year from reference year alone can therefore give the wrong answer.
We count full calendar months from the original birth date, then split them into years and remaining months. The days left after that monthly anniversary complete the result. Total days are counted separately: the birth date is day zero, so the next date is one elapsed day.
Month ends and leap-day birthdays
If a monthly anniversary has no matching day, we use the last valid day of that month. For example, 31 January to 28 February 2025 is one month. From 31 January to 1 March is one month and one day. Each anniversary stays anchored to the original birth day, so the next one is 31 March.
For a birth date of 29 February, this calculator uses 28 February in a non-leap year for the age anniversary and birthday countdown. Other calculators or official rules may use a different convention. This is a calendar calculation, not a legal eligibility decision.
Age calculation examples
These fixed examples show how a selected reference date changes the result.
| Date of birth | Age as on | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 15 August 2000 | 1 January 2026 | 25 years, 4 months, 17 days |
| 31 January 2025 | 28 February 2025 | 0 years, 1 month, 0 days |
| 31 January 2025 | 1 March 2025 | 0 years, 1 month, 1 day |
| 29 February 2024 | 28 February 2025 | 1 year, 0 months, 0 days |
Age calculator as on a government job cut-off date
When a recruitment notice asks for your age “as on” a date, enter that exact date in the second row. Do not assume it is today, the date you submit the application, or the application closing date.
For example, with a DOB of 15 August 2000 and a stated cut-off of 1 January 2026, the result is 25 years, 4 months and 17 days. Compare the notice’s age requirement with the calculation, checking any explicit permitted date-of-birth range and its inclusive or exclusive boundaries.
Minimum ages, upper limits and category relaxations depend on the recruitment and post. This calculator does not apply relaxations or decide whether you qualify. The official notification and any corrigendum are the source for those rules.
Browse government job notices and follow the source links to check the relevant age conditions.
Frequently asked questions
Can I find my age on a past or future date?
Yes. Set “Age as on” to the date you need. It must be on or after your date of birth. Your date of birth itself cannot be in the future.
Where does today’s date come from?
Today comes from your device’s local date when the page opens. Select “Use today” to refresh it. If your device date or time zone is wrong, correct it or enter the reference date manually.
What does completed age mean?
Completed age is the number of full years you have reached. Someone aged 25 years and 11 months has completed 25 years, even though they are in their 26th year of life.
Is the birthday countdown measured from today?
It is measured from your selected “Age as on” date. If that date is the birthday anniversary, the result says “Birthday on this date”. For leap-day births, the non-leap-year anniversary used here is 28 February.
Why might another calculator show different months or days?
Month lengths vary, so month-end conventions can differ. Our method clamps each monthly anniversary to the last valid day when necessary, always using the original birth day. The method and examples above explain these boundary cases.
Does RojgarRank save or send my date of birth?
No. Calculations run on your device. The calculator does not send your dates to a server or save them in browser storage or the page URL. “Copy result” writes the dates and result to your clipboard only when you select it.
Can this tell me whether I am eligible for an exam?
It gives your calendar age on the chosen cut-off date. Eligibility also depends on the notification’s age limits, date-of-birth boundaries, relaxations and other conditions. Check the official notice for the examination cycle and post.
