On this page

IISER Mohali (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Mohali) invited applications for its Summer Research Program 2026. It is a short research placement for students, not a permanent job and not a paid apprenticeship. Selected BSc (second or third year) and MSc (first year) students, or equivalent, would spend 6 to 8 weeks working on a project with IISER Mohali faculty. As of 11 October 2026, the application deadline (25 April 2026, 23:59 IST) and the program window (15 May to 15 July 2026) have both passed.

Is this a job or an apprenticeship?

Neither. The official page describes a research-exposure program for students and teachers. There are no vacancies, no salary and no service contract. IISER Mohali states that it will not provide any other stipend, fellowship or financial support for food or travel. Do not confuse it with a permanent post or a stipend-based apprenticeship.

What the program included

Research project

Students work on a specific summer project in consultation with a supervisor from IISER Mohali's faculty. At the end, they submit a research report approved by the supervisor.

Interdisciplinary course work

The program also had a series of lectures by scientists from different fields. Students who successfully complete the program receive a certificate from IISER Mohali.

Eligibility

The notice names only the academic levels: BSc second or third year, MSc first year, or equivalent. It gives no minimum marks, age limit or other criteria on the page we reviewed. Applicants also had to be free for the whole 15 May to 15 July window, because the institute said it could not accommodate requests to attend outside those dates.

Selection categories, support and accommodation

  • Category A: applicants with their own scholarship to support themselves.
  • Category B: some applicants may be supported, on a competitive basis, through SSR-SERB grants of individual faculty members.
  • Category C: all remaining applicants.

IISER Mohali offered free accommodation to Category C students. Other students had to pay nominal accommodation charges from the scholarship or grant that supports them. The hostel mess was available on a payment basis.

How applications worked

  1. Applicants filled in the online application form linked from the official IISER Mohali page.
  2. They had to enter all details correctly, since tentatively offered candidates had to furnish documents to verify the information before selection was confirmed.
  3. The form had to be submitted by 23:59 IST on 25 April 2026.

The official page does not mention an application fee, a vacancy count or a selection test. Do not assume any of these.

What to do now

The 2026 application window has closed, and this page does not say whether IISER Mohali will run the program again. For queries, the institute lists summer@iisermohali.ac.in. If you are interested in a later edition, check the Summer Research Program page on the IISER Mohali website for a new notice before relying on the 2026 terms.

Not to be confused with IISER Mohali non-faculty recruitment

A separate third-party listing describes a non-faculty recruitment at IISER Mohali (Advt. No. NF(03)/Regular/2026) with a 15 June 2026 deadline. That is a different notice for regular posts. We did not verify it against the official advertisement, and it is not part of the Summer Research Program.

FAQ

Who was eligible for the IISER Mohali Summer Research Program 2026?
