Is this a permanent job?

No. According to the summary, the notice describes a temporary contract for service. It says the engagement gives no right to regular appointment and no employer-employee relationship. It also excludes PF, pension, gratuity and performance-related pay. It is also not an apprenticeship, since candidates need post-qualification work experience and are paid a monthly retainership rather than a stipend.

Posts, grades and eligibility

Experience is counted after the essential qualification. It must come from a PSU, a government organisation, a public limited company, a PSU joint venture, or a private firm with a valid CIN. Degrees must be regular and full-time from institutions recognised by UGC, AICTE, ICAI or ICMAI. The summary treats "preferred" branches as desirable rather than the only accepted degree.

Selection process

  • If applications are fewer than five times the seats, all eligible candidates may be called for interview.
  • Dates for any test, interview or admit card are not announced. The syllabus, marks and duration of the conditional test are not printed. Corrigenda, if any, will appear on www.sail.co.in.

Terms to check before paying

  • The fee is non-refundable "under any circumstances", and gateway charges are extra.
  • Either side can end the contract on seven days' notice during the first six months. After that, one month's notice applies.
  • Extension beyond the initial period, up to two further years, is at SAIL's discretion.
  • The summary describes a six-day week of eight and a half hours.
  • Selected candidates must sign the contract and provide a medical fitness certificate at joining. Government or PSU employees also need a release order.
