Percentage to CGPA formulas
Each formula below is the reverse of a common CGPA-to-percentage formula. Use the one that matches the formula you were given:
| CGPA to percentage | Percentage to CGPA | 75% converts to |
|---|---|---|
| CGPA × 9.5 | percentage ÷ 9.5 | 75 ÷ 9.5 = 7.89 |
| CGPA × 10 | percentage ÷ 10 | 75 ÷ 10 = 7.50 |
| (CGPA − 0.5) × 10 | percentage ÷ 10 + 0.5 | 75 ÷ 10 + 0.5 = 8.00 |
| (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 | percentage ÷ 10 + 0.75 | 75 ÷ 10 + 0.75 = 8.25 |
An equivalent, not an awarded CGPA
Universities and boards calculate CGPA from the grade points you earn in each course, weighted by credits. They do not work it out from a percentage. A converted figure is useful for comparison, or when a form or admission office tells you to convert this way. It is not a CGPA you were awarded, so do not present it as one.
If an application asks for CGPA and your marksheet shows only percentage, read its instructions first. Some forms ask you to enter your percentage instead, or to attach a conversion certificate.
