The 3rd International Bharat 6G Symposium 2026 was organised by the Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA) at Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, New Delhi, and scheduled for 7–9 October 2026. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia inaugurated it on 8 October 2026. As of 10 October 2026, the scheduled dates have passed, so the symposium is best treated as a completed event.

Bharat 6G Symposium 2026: what happened and when

Event dates versus publication dates

These dates are easy to mix up, so keep them separate:

  • Symposium schedule: 7–9 October 2026, as stated in both sources.
  • Inauguration: 8 October 2026.
  • Press Information Bureau (PIB) release: posted on 8 October 2026 (9:32 PM), issued by PIB Delhi for the Ministry of Communications.
  • GKToday report: dated 9 October 2026, with wording that treats the event as still under way.

Status as of 10 October 2026

The sources describe the inauguration and its announcements. Neither reports a closing session, final outcomes or any announcement made on 9 October. This post therefore reports only what was documented from the 8 October ceremony and the programme themes.

Why the symposium matters

The PIB release presents the symposium as a platform for policymakers, global technology alliances, telecom operators, industry, academia and research institutions to collaborate on next-generation communication technology and India's 6G ambitions. It describes the inauguration as a milestone towards a "globally competitive, indigenous and trusted" 6G ecosystem. That is the government's framing, not an independent assessment.

For exam preparation, the useful points are the organiser, the venue, the partner organisations and the documents released. Together they show how India is building a 6G ecosystem through standards work, research partnerships and international cooperation.

Key announcements on 8 October 2026

New Delhi Declaration progress report

A joint report was also released: "Progress towards the 6G Principles of the New Delhi Declaration: Actions, Outcomes and Outlook – First Edition, October 2026." According to PIB, it marks one year since the Declaration was endorsed at the International Bharat 6G Symposium 2025. It captures progress reported by the participating MoU partners.

PIB describes the Declaration as a common framework for 6G as a secure, resilient, open, interoperable, inclusive and sustainable technology ecosystem. It stresses international collaboration in research, innovation and standardisation.

Background: 6G, IMT-2030 and the Bharat 6G Alliance

What 6G and IMT-2030 mean

6G is the common name for the sixth generation of mobile communication. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) uses IMT-2030 for its framework for international mobile telecommunications beyond 5G. GKToday states that ITU Recommendation M.2160-0, approved in November 2023, sets out the framework and overall objectives of IMT-2030.

Programme themes named in the sources include global 6G vision, standards, trials and testbeds, AI-native and sustainable networks, spectrum, industry applications and international cooperation.

Role of the Bharat 6G Alliance

The Bharat 6G Alliance brings together Indian industry, academia, research bodies and government stakeholders. Its work covers research, development, standards and international engagement. PIB also mentions support for India's participation in global standardisation, trials and intellectual property creation.
