Actor R Madhavan has expressed gratitude and humility after being named a Padma Shri awardee, calling the recognition “beyond my wildest dreams”. Reacting to the announcement on the eve of Republic Day, the actor dedicated the honour to his family, mentors, well-wishers and audiences, acknowledging their support as central to his journey in Indian cinema.

In a message shared on social media, Madhavan said he accepted the Padma Shri with profound humility. He described the award as a collective recognition of the faith and encouragement he received over the years. Emphasising values over accolades, he said the honour was not merely a celebration of past work but a responsibility he intended to uphold with dignity, sincerity and integrity.

Madhavan will be conferred the Padma Shri by President Droupadi Murmu for his contribution to Indian cinema. The Padma Awards 2026, announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs, recognise excellence across fields such as arts, education, sports and public service. Madhavan’s selection reflects his sustained impact across multiple film industries, including Hindi, Tamil and Telugu cinema.

The actor made his Bollywood debut with “Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein” in 2001 and rose to prominence in Tamil cinema with Mani Ratnam’s “Alai Payuthey”. Over the years, he built a reputation for versatile performances across languages and genres. He was last seen in Aditya Dhar’s blockbuster “Dhurandhar”, co-starring Ranveer Singh, with its sequel scheduled for release in March 2026.

Madhavan stated that he viewed the Padma Shri as a reminder of responsibility rather than personal achievement. He expressed hope to continue serving cinema and society with humility and integrity. His response has resonated with fans and peers alike, highlighting how national honours often reinforce an artist’s bond with the public they serve.
