  1. Supreme Court Recognises Homemaker's Domestic Work as Compensable Loss in Motor Accident Claims

On 11 June 2026, the Supreme Court of India held that the loss of domestic care provided by a homemaker constitutes a distinct and compensable head of damages in motor accident claims. The Court fixed a minimum compensation value of ₹30,000 per month for such domestic services, supplementing established compensation heads under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and the 2017 landmark judgment in National Insurance Co. Ltd. v. Pranay Sethi. This judgment explicitly recognizes the economic and social contribution of homemakers beyond unpaid household labor, mandating courts and tribunals to factor this in relevant claims to better address the financial needs of dependents.

  5. India Validates First Indigenous HPV Test for Cervical Cancer Screening

India has validated Truenat HR-HPV-Plus, the country's first indigenously developed human papillomavirus (HPV) test for cervical cancer screening. Developed by Molbio Diagnostics in Goa and validated through a multi-institutional study involving AIIMS New Delhi, ICMR institutes, and WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer, this chip-based RT-PCR test detects eight high-risk HPV types responsible for around 95% of cervical cancers. The assay meets international standards and is designed for point-of-care use, facilitating decentralized screening. With India bearing about 127,000 new cervical cancer cases annually, this indigenous innovation aligns with national health goals and supports existing vaccination and screening programs to reduce cervical cancer burden.
