India will host the 18th BRICS Summit on September 12-13, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Under its fourth BRICS chairship, India has adopted the theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability," focusing on inclusive growth and global cooperation. BRICS, originally comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has expanded to 11 members by 2026, including Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Indonesia. India's role as chair involves organizing the summit and leading discussions on trade, finance, digital cooperation, climate action, and sustainable development, with the summit marking 20 years since BRICS' formation.
MYAS Approves 15-Member Indian Esports Contingent for Asian Games 2026
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) has approved a 15-member Indian esports team to participate in the 20th Asian Games held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, 2026. India’s esports contingent is part of a larger 492-member multi-sport Indian delegation. The esports competitions will take place from September 23 to October 2, 2026, featuring participation in four video game titles: League of Legends, Pokémon UNITE, eFootball, and Puyo Puyo Champions.

During a 2026 biodiversity survey, Dehing Patkai National Park in Assam recorded 165 butterfly species, including 37 endangered species, underscoring its rich biodiversity and ecological significance. Covering 234.26 square kilometres across the districts of Dibrugarh and Tinsukia, the park is part of the tropical wet evergreen rainforest ecosystem within the Indo-Burma biodiversity hotspot.
