  1. India Notifies ₹1.27 Lakh Crore Semicon 2.0 Scheme to Boost Semiconductor Ecosystem

The Indian government notified the Semicon 2.0 scheme on August 31, 2026, with a fiscal outlay of ₹1,27,500 crore to accelerate and expand the semiconductor ecosystem, including manufacturing, design, packaging, R&D, and talent development. The scheme focuses on six pillars: design, machines and materials, fabrication units, assembly and packaging (ATMP/OSAT), research, and talent development. It provides significant fiscal incentives, such as 40% support for silicon wafer fabs with a minimum investment of ₹20,000 crore and incentives for startups and OCI-owned companies under the chip design ecosystem. A target to train 100,000 additional semiconductor engineers illustrates the drive for talent development, positioning India as a key global player in semiconductors.
