    Lahore, the capital of Punjab province in Pakistan, has been designated by the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) as the Tourism and Cultural Capital for the 2026–27 term. This announcement was made at the 26th SCO Council of Heads of State meeting held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Lahore is celebrated for its rich Mughal heritage, featuring landmarks such as the Lahore Fort and Shalimar Gardens, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites.   3. LiDAR Survey and Archaeological Mapping at Lakkundi, Karnataka

    The Department of Archaeology, Museums and Heritage (DAMH), Karnataka, in collaboration with the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bengaluru, is undertaking a six-month project using LiDAR, GIS, remote sensing, and Ground Penetrating Radar to locate and map buried monuments from the 10th to 12th century Kalyana-Chalukya period at Lakkundi, Gadag district. This project aims to verify local folklore about '101 wells and 101 temples' scientifically, uncover hidden structures, and aid heritage preservation efforts including plans for a state-protected open-air museum.

  4. RBI appoints Suman Ray as Executive Director overseeing Premises and DICGC departments

    On 1 September 2026, the Reserve Bank of India appointed Suman Ray as Executive Director. Previously Regional Director for Maharashtra, Ray now oversees the Premises Department and the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC).
