  1. One Tag launched: FASTag users can now switch banks without replacing their tag

The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways launched the One Tag system on 11 September 2026, enabling FASTag users to switch their backend issuing bank without removing or replacing the physical FASTag sticker on their vehicle’s windshield. This digital portability system, similar to mobile number portability, allows vehicle owners to port their FASTag seamlessly via the Rajmarg Yatra mobile app. India has issued about 13 crore FASTags, with FASTag accounting for over 98% of toll transactions, facilitating cashless, faster toll payments on national highways. The One Tag system improves user convenience and is a step toward a fully integrated digital tolling ecosystem.

  2. IMF Welcomes India's Modernised Macroeconomic Statistical Framework

On 10 September 2026, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) lauded India’s initiative to modernise its macroeconomic statistical framework by updating the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) base year to 2022-23 and incorporating new economic indicators like the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) and Producer Price Index (PPI). These changes enhance the accuracy of India's GDP estimates, reflecting structural changes in the economy. The IMF highlighted India’s real GDP growth of 7.8% in April-June 2026 quarter, driven by robust services and exports, reinforcing India's role as a key global growth engine. However, some domestic experts questioned the statistical methods, prompting the IMF to encourage continued improvement in data quality and methodology.

  3. Digital India Land Records Modernisation Programme (DILRMP) 3.0 launched with Rs. 565.5 crore outlay

On 10 September 2026, the Ministry of Rural Development launched DILRMP 3.0, a central sector scheme aimed at creating an integrated, GIS-enabled land records system across India. With an approved outlay of Rs. 565.50 crore for 2026-31, the programme will digitize land data, assign unique 14-digit Bhu-Aadhaar (ULPIN) numbers to all land parcels, and upgrade registration services to improve transparency, efficiency, and ease of access. This phase moves beyond isolated digital records towards a unified Land Stack integrating maps, registrations, and dispute data.
