Southern Railway achieves 100% electrification of its 5,068 km Broad Gauge network
Southern Railway has completed the electrification of its entire Broad Gauge network spanning 5,068 route kilometers, following the electrification of the last 71-km section between Pattukkottai and Karaikkudi in Tamil Nadu. This milestone, achieved on September 9, 2026, means trains can now operate seamlessly on electric traction across the zone without traction changes between electric and diesel locomotives.
