Exercise Eager Lion 2026 is the 12th biennial combined military exercise between the United States and Jordan, held from 15 September 2026 at Fort Carson, Colorado. More than 200 military personnel from both countries participate in this two-week event, focusing on counterterrorism, air defense, maritime security, cyber operations, and disaster response. This exercise marks the first time the U.S. hosts the drill, reinforcing longstanding military ties supported by the Colorado-Jordan State Partnership Program established in 2004. Eager Lion enhances joint operational readiness and regional security cooperation.
Ministry of Steel Launches Special Campaign 6.0 with Focus on E-Waste Management (October 2026)
The Ministry of Steel along with its Public Sector Undertakings will conduct Special Campaign 6.0 from 2 October to 31 October 2026, emphasizing effective collection, segregation, and environmentally sound disposal of electronic waste (e-waste). The campaign includes a preparatory phase from 15 September to 30 September 2026 and covers mechanised cleaning, disposal of pending references, and public awareness. This initiative builds on previous campaigns and aligns with the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022 that came into effect from 1 April 2023.
Kumik Declared Ladakh’s First Heritage Village
On 15 September 2026, Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena officially declared Kumik village in Zanskar as Ladakh’s first designated Heritage Village. This recognition highlights the village's rich cultural, architectural, and Buddhist textual heritage, including preservation of traditional mud houses, agricultural practices, and precious Kanjur Buddhist manuscripts. In September 2026, researchers announced the discovery of two new amphibian species in Mizoram — a montane toad named Duttaphrynus phawngpui from Phawngpui National Park and a frog species named Ingerana aizawl found on the Mizoram University campus. Odisha Gets ₹3,406 Crore Silicon Carbide Semiconductor Manufacturing Unit
Odisha has obtained approval for its second semiconductor manufacturing facility, operated by SiCSem Private Limited, involving an investment of ₹3,406.25 crore at IDCO Infovalley-II, Khordha district. This unit specializes in silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor devices, including diodes and MOSFETs, with an annual capacity of nearly 96 million units. The project is projected to generate significant exports worth ₹7,043 crore in five years, create 1,270 direct jobs, and bolster India's semiconductor manufacturing capabilities. SiC's superior properties enable these devices to operate efficiently in high-voltage, high-temperature applications critical to sectors like electric vehicles, renewable energy, defense, and railways, positioning Odisha as a key hub in India's semiconductor ecosystem.
Sports Ministry Forms Task Force to Revive Formula 1 Racing in India by 2028
On 15 September 2026, the Indian Ministry of Sports established a 10-member Task Force to explore reviving Formula 1 and motorsports in India by 2028. Chaired by NITI Aayog Programme Director Yugal Kishore Joshi, the panel includes representatives from sports, commerce, tourism, and revenue departments, along with officials from Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra and motorsport stakeholders. The Task Force will address policy, taxation, infrastructure and partnership models, following the cessation of Indian F1 Grand Prix after 2013 due to taxation and operational challenges. The revival aims to boost economic, tourism, and sports development in India.
