Background & Context

Initiated as a national digital infrastructure for school education, DIKSHA was launched by the Honorable Vice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu in 2017. It is an initiative of NCERT under the aegis of the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. DIKSHA was developed based on the Strategy and Approach Paper for the National Teacher Platform released in September 2017 by the then Minister for Human Resource Development, Shri Prakash Javadekar. The platform has been widely adopted by nearly all States, Union Territories, central autonomous bodies, and education boards including CBSE, offering digital learning resources aligned with state and national curricula. The platform saw an unprecedented rise in usage during the COVID-19 pandemic facilitating remote learning and continuous professional development of teachers. DIKSHA's content ecosystem includes contributions from individual teachers, NGOs, corporates, and government bodies, providing a rich repository under Creative Commons licenses. As part of the PM eVidya initiative, DIKSHA was declared the one national digital platform to unify digital education resources in the country.

Why This Matters for Exams / Exam Relevance

DIKSHA is a pivotal development in India's education digital transformation and is relevant for competitive examinations that cover government initiatives, digital education policies, and education technology. Questions in prelims and mains exams related to digital platforms in education, government schemes under the Ministry of Education, and teacher professional training programs often feature DIKSHA. Its role in ensuring inclusive education, multi-language support, and as a model for other e-learning platforms make it important for aspirants to understand.
