Early Life and Leadership
Born as Lahna in 1504 in present-day Punjab, Guru Angad Dev became the second Sikh Guru in 1539 after Guru Nanak Dev. He led until 1552, strengthening Sikhism’s foundations.
Standardisation of Gurmukhi Script
He standardized the Gurmukhi script, facilitating the widespread dissemination of Sikh teachings in Punjabi and promoting literacy.
Social and Educational Reforms
Guru Angad Dev established schools, encouraged physical fitness, moral discipline, and expanded the Langar institution to serve all irrespective of caste or status.
Religious Contributions
He composed 62 hymns set to various ragas and structured Sikh congregations (Sangat), consolidating the Sikh community.
