The Sangno clan of Arunachal Pradesh's Nyishi tribe has initiated a community-led conservation program for the Transcaspian marinka (Schizothorax pelzami), a ray-finned freshwater fish locally called Ngarsing. Native to Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and parts of the Himalayas including Arunachal Pradesh, the species inhabits freshwater rivers, streams, springs, and qanats, occupying a benthopelagic niche. On 28 June 2026, 52 fingerlings were translocated to a mahseer-free stretch of the Richaso stream in East Kameng district to promote population recovery. The community proposed a five-year fishing ban to aid conservation and support traditional practices. The IUCN lists the species as Least Concern as of 2026, although some references suggest local vulnerability.

  9. WHO Adds First Molecular Diagnostic Test for Bundibugyo Ebola Virus to Emergency Use Listing

On 2 July 2026, the World Health Organization (WHO) included the first molecular diagnostic test for Bundibugyo virus (BDBV), an Ebola virus species, in its Emergency Use Listing (EUL). This test detects viral genetic material in blood, facilitating timely and accurate confirmation of Bundibugyo virus infection. The inclusion supports rapid access to reliable diagnostics during the ongoing outbreak, primarily in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda. Bundibugyo virus, first identified in Uganda in 2007, is genetically distinct from the Zaire ebolavirus strain, for which most existing diagnostics and treatments are designed. As of 2 July 2026, the DRC reported 1,406 confirmed cases and 438 deaths.
