  1. Maharashtra Launches Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Shetkari Karj-Mafi Yojana for Farm Loan Waiver

    On 7 August 2026, Maharashtra initiated direct cash transfers under the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Shetkari Karj-Mafi Yojana, providing loan waivers for over 6.2 lakh eligible farmers. The scheme focuses on waiver of short-term crop loans up to ₹2 lakh taken between 1 April 2019 and 31 March 2025. Regular borrowers who did not default are eligible for incentives up to ₹50,000. Around 18-19 lakh accounts were initially scrutinized, with about 12 lakh returned to banks for data verification due to discrepancies. Exclusions include 94,000 income tax payers and around 1.40 lakh farmers with administrative or technical issues. Government and local body employees, along with more than 2,000 public representatives, are also excluded.

  3. Bengaluru Police Launch Operation Mukta to Identify Illegal Immigrants

    On 8 August 2026, Bengaluru City Police initiated Operation Mukta to identify and track illegal immigrants, especially suspected Bangladeshi nationals, residing unlawfully in key city areas such as Whitefield and Electronic City. Over 500 police personnel conducted early morning raids across more than 30 locations, focusing on migrant sheds and verifying identity documents such as Aadhaar and Voter ID cards.   4. 10th India International Footwear Fair 2026 Held in New Delhi

    The 10th edition of the India International Footwear Fair (IIFF) was held from 6 to 8 August 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.   11. India Bans New Renewable Energy Projects Near International Borders for Security Reasons
