Neelam Meena Appointed First Female Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal

On 25 May 2026, Neelam Meena, a 1998 batch IAS officer of the West Bengal cadre, was appointed as the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal by the Election Commission of India (ECI). She is the first woman to hold this post in the state. The CEO oversees election administration, including electoral rolls and polling arrangements, under the Representation of the People Act, 1950 and 1951. Neelam Meena replaced Manoj Kumar Agarwal, who became the Chief Secretary of West Bengal. Prior to this role, Meena was Principal Secretary in the Consumer Affairs Department.
