CBSE’s official formula
CBSE introduced grading for Classes 9 and 10 from 2009–10. Its Circular 24/2010 gives an indicative equivalence between grades and marks:
- Overall indicative percentage = 9.5 × CGPA
- Subject-wise indicative percentage = 9.5 × grade point of the subject
CBSE’s 2014 performance-profile format repeats the same rule. For example, a CGPA of 8.2 converts to 9.5 × 8.2 = 77.9%, and a subject grade point of 9 converts to 9.5 × 9 = 85.5%. To convert one subject, enter its grade point instead of your CGPA.
What the result means
CBSE calls the converted figure an indicative percentage. It is an equivalent, not the marks you actually scored. Your CGPA excludes the additional sixth subject in the scheme of studies, so the overall percentage does too.
If your Class 10 marksheet shows marks instead of grades, calculate your percentage from marks with the marks-percentage calculator.
Class 10 percentage in a government job application
Many recruitment forms ask for your 10th percentage. Unless the notice gives a different rule, use 9.5 × CGPA and keep your CBSE statement ready for document verification. Browse government recruitment notices to check eligibility for a specific post.
