GTU’s official formula
GTU’s Academic Council set the conversion in Notification 1/2012 (GTU/Notification/2012/3970, dated 13 April 2012), effective from the Winter 2011 examination:
Percentage marks = (CPI/CGPA − 0.5) × 10
For example, a CGPA of 8.2 converts to (8.2 − 0.5) × 10 = 77%. A CPI of 6.5 converts to (6.5 − 0.5) × 10 = 60%.
GTU equivalent class
The same notification sets the class from your CPI/CGPA, not from the converted percentage:
| CPI/CGPA | Equivalent class | Percentage at the lower limit |
|---|---|---|
| 7.1 and above | First class with distinction | 66% |
| 6.5 and above | First class | 60% |
| 5.5 and above | Second class | 50% |
| Below 5.5 | Pass class | Below 50% |
CGPA or CPI: which number to convert
The notification says degrees for courses longer than two years are awarded on the CGPA of the last four semesters, and two-year courses on the CPI of all four semesters. Convert the figure shown on your final grade history or degree record.
