  14. Scientists Discover Earth-Like Exoplanet GJ 3378b Orbiting Red Dwarf Star

Astronomers have identified and re-analyzed an Earth-like exoplanet named GJ 3378b orbiting the red dwarf star Gliese 3378, located about 25 light-years away in the northern constellation Camelopardalis. Revised measurements published in 2026 show GJ 3378b has about 2.3 times Earth's mass and completes one orbit in 21.45 days. Crucially, it lies within the star's habitable zone, receiving approximately 90% of the radiation Earth receives from the Sun, suggesting potential for liquid water if an atmosphere exists. The planet was discovered using radial-velocity observations, aided by instruments like the Habitable-zone Planet Finder and the NEID Spectrometer. Future observations by NASA’s planned Habitable Worlds Observatory aim to investigate its atmosphere and potential biosignatures.
