SSC CGL Photo & Signature Requirements: Size, Format & Checker

For SSC CGL 2026, the notice specifies a JPG/JPEG signature between 10 and 20 KB and requires live photograph capture during the application process. Use the checker above for the signature file, then review the official instructions for your cycle. These are the 2026 instructions, not a claim that applications are currently open.

Set by your selected exam requirements. If needed, we’ll reduce dimensions to fit. Nothing is cropped.

More options
Proportions are always kept.

Leave this unchecked to let large images fit the KB limit automatically. Entering a width or height locks your chosen dimensions.

Leave the minimum at 0 unless your form requires one. JPG gives transparent areas a white background. PNG keeps transparency and may need smaller dimensions. 1 KB = 1,024 bytes.

SSC CGL · Signature

JPG · 10–20 KB · No verified pixel constraint

JPEG/JPG is required. Check that the whole signature remains clear after compression.

Manual verification needed. The notice gives approximately 6 × 2 cm in §9.6 and 4 × 2 cm in Annexure IV. No single dimension is enforced here; confirm the applicable instruction with SSC.

What the SSC CGL signature checker can verify

The checker measures the file format, byte size and pixel dimensions. Choose SSC CGL → CGL 2026 → Signature, select your scan, and use Check image to see whether the original meets the confirmed file constraints. PNG and WebP inputs can be converted to JPEG when preparing the download.

A useful scan contains the complete signature with a little clear space around it. If the pen strokes are already blurred in the original, compression cannot recover them. Start with a clearer scan before trying to fit the upload limit.

Why the dimension check needs manual verification

The official CGL 2026 notice gives approximately 6 × 2 cm in section 9.6 and again in the checklist, but approximately 4 × 2 cm in Annexure IV. This is a conflict within the document. The checker therefore does not enforce one ratio or declare the dimension requirement satisfied.

Confirm the applicable instruction in the official portal or with SSC. A centimetre measurement also depends on resolution settings; a pixel count alone does not certify a physical size. Do not stretch a signature to force it into a rectangle.

Prepare a signature between 10 and 20 KB

  1. Select your original image. Keep an unchanged copy for later.
  2. Rotate it if necessary, then adjust the crop coordinates. The red outline shows which area will be exported.
  3. Set the output width. Height follows the crop’s proportions automatically.
  4. Select Prepare download. Review the actual exported dimensions and byte size.
  5. Download the JPEG and inspect the strokes at normal viewing size before selecting it in the SSC form.

If the image remains above 20 KB, reduce the output width modestly or remove unused margins. If it is below 10 KB at high quality, use a larger or clearer original. The tool does not add meaningless bytes to make a tiny file appear compliant.

Live photograph capture is a separate step

SSC’s application process captures the photograph through a webcam or mobile device. The notice says not to capture an existing photograph. The photo section of this tool therefore points you to the official process instead of producing a replacement upload.

Before submitting the application

Check the image inside the official form after uploading it. A successful download here does not prove that the signature is legible, belongs to the applicant or satisfies every application rule. The highlighted dimension conflict still needs manual confirmation.

Use the shared exam image compressor for another document or examination. For the broader application process, read our SSC CGL application guide.
