Bangladesh-China Cooperation on Teesta River Comprehensive Management and Restoration Project
During Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s visit to Beijing from June 24-26, 2026, Bangladesh and China agreed to deepen cooperation on the Teesta River Comprehensive Management and Restoration Project. The project aims to address river management issues including dredging, embankment construction, land reclamation, and road development across the Teesta basin, a transboundary river shared with India. The initiative involves removing 140 million cubic meters of sediment, reclaiming 171 square kilometers of land, and enhancing infrastructure such as embankments and jetties. China offered technical expertise and training to Bangladeshi water management officials. This cooperation follows a 2016 MoU and a 2026 agreement extension. The project is geopolitically sensitive due to the Teesta River's location near India’s Siliguri Corridor and longstanding water-sharing complexities involving Bangladesh and India.
India inaugurates world's first nuclear process heat-based hydrogen production facility
On 26 June 2026, India inaugurated the world's first hydrogen production facility using nuclear process heat at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu. This facility uses the Copper-Chlorine (Cu-Cl) thermochemical cycle, developed indigenously by the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai, and receives nuclear process heat from the Fast Breeder Test Reactor (FBTR). It demonstrates the integration of nuclear energy with clean hydrogen production technology for carbon-free, large-scale hydrogen generation.
HELINA Missile: Indigenous Third-Generation Anti-Tank Guided Missile
HELINA (Helicopter-launched Nag) is an advanced third-generation, fire-and-forget anti-tank guided missile developed indigenously by India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for deployment from helicopter platforms like the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) and Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) Prachand. It uses an Imaging Infrared (IIR) seeker with lock-on before launch capability, enabling precision engagement of armored targets at ranges from 500 meters up to 7 kilometers. HELINA supports both direct hit and top attack modes, enhancing its effectiveness against heavily armored vehicles. Defence Public Sector Undertaking Bharat Dynamics Limited has received orders worth over Rs 1,100 crore for Helina launchers. Successful live fire and user validation trials, including high-altitude shoots, have demonstrated HELINA's operational readiness, integrating it with the Indian Armed Forces' modernization efforts under Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.

India Conducts First Jet Aircraft Landing Using GAGAN Satellite-Based Navigation System
On 27 June 2026, India successfully conducted its first satellite-based landing system approach on a jet engine aircraft at Udaipur airport using the indigenous GPS Aided GEO Augmented Navigation (GAGAN) system. The flight was operated by an IndiGo Airbus A320 under the supervision of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). GAGAN is a collaborative development of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and provides enhanced GPS navigation accuracy for civil aviation, offering precise lateral and vertical guidance especially at airports without Instrument Landing Systems. Since 1 July 2021, DGCA has mandated GAGAN equipment installation on all aircraft registered in India. India is the first in the Asia-Pacific region to operationalize such a Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS), improving aviation safety and efficiency.
Germany’s Lake Laach Volcano Magma Reservoir Mapped in 3D Using Largest Seismological Experiment
A German scientific team conducted the largest passive seismological experiment in Central Europe from September 2022 to August 2023. Utilizing over 494 seismic stations alongside a 64 km fibre-optic cable, researchers obtained a high-resolution three-dimensional image of the magma reservoir beneath Lake Laach in the Eifel volcanic region of western Germany. The reservoir extends from about 2 km to 10 km in depth, has an estimated volume of approximately 75 cubic kilometers, and is tilted roughly 53° towards the southeast. Over 1,000 microearthquakes were detected, primarily between 10 km and 16 km depths, indicating active magmatic and fluid processes beneath the region. These findings illustrate that the Eifel volcanic field remains active, necessitating continued volcanic surveillance.
ISRO's Semi-Cryogenic Engine Hot Test Achieves 88% Target Thrust

This test marks the eighth in the Power Head Test Article series aimed at validating the engine’s integrated systems. The semi-cryogenic propulsion stage (SC120) using liquid oxygen and kerosene is designed to replace the current L110 core stage of India’s heavy-lift LVM3 launch vehicle, enhancing payload capability and operational efficiency, with full thrust testing and operational deployment targeted by 2027.
West Bengal to Introduce Uniform Civil Code Bill in 2026 Assembly Session
