Telangana to Distribute 1.05 Crore New Laminated PDS Ration Cards from August 15, 2026
Telangana government will begin distributing 1.05 crore newly issued laminated Public Distribution System (PDS) ration cards across the state from Independence Day, August 15, 2026. The launch ceremony will be held at Sangareddy with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy officiating. The new ration cards are credit-card sized with a QR code for digital verification under the National Food Security Act, 2013 framework. This initiative aims to enhance food security coverage and streamline beneficiary identification in Telangana’s 119 Assembly constituencies.
IIT Bombay's Professor Karthikeyan Lanka Receives NASI Young Scientist Award 2026

Lok Sabha passes Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026
On 6 August 2026, the Lok Sabha passed the Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026, introduced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The Bill amends the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007, the Income-tax Act, 2025, and the Finance Act, 2026. It extends income tax exemptions until 2040-41 for foreign companies that engage contract manufacturers in India for electronics goods and those storing components in customs warehouses for supply to Indian manufacturers. The Bill also provides legal backing for the Central government to modify the zero Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) framework relating to UPI and RuPay card transactions and allows the government to decide which electronic payment modes remain free. Furthermore, it exempts Foreign Institutional Investors and the Bank for International Settlements from income tax on interest and capital gains from investments in government securities effective from 1 April 2026.
Tamil Nadu Launches Vetri Vaanmagal Drone Training Scheme for Women Farmers
On 6 August 2026, Tamil Nadu announced the Vetri Vaanmagal scheme aimed at training women farmers and other eligible participants in agricultural drone operation, along with support for obtaining drone pilot licenses. Telangana Launches AI-Powered NextGen Dial-112 Emergency Response System
On 5 August 2026, Telangana Police inaugurated the AI-enabled NextGen Dial-112 Emergency Response Support System (TG-ERSS) at the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGiCCC) in Hyderabad. This system integrates 18 emergency services under the national single emergency number 112 and employs artificial intelligence for improving call filtering, incident prioritisation, smart routing, and voice-to-text transcription. China Harvests First Batch of Rice Grown in Space

Andhra Pradesh Targets ₹9.5 Lakh Crore Investment in Visakhapatnam Economic Region
